Women Entrepreneurship Training Program Launched

The University of Nairobi, School of Business has officially launched a professional training program targeting women entrepreneurs in start-up and growing businesses.

The program offered by the African Women Studies Centre (AWSC) in collaboration with the School of Business is the first of its kind in the region.  The program intends to equip women with knowledge, attitude and skills to succeed in business for their economic empowerment.

The women entrepreneurship program is organized in six modules with each module taking three days. Upon completion of the six modules, the participants will be conferred with certificates.

Sharing her entrepreneurial journey during the event, Ms. Tabitha Karanja, CEO Keroche Breweries said, “Entrepreneurship is a long journey with a lot of challenges.”  Ms. Karanja lauded the program noting that the training will support women regionally and globally. “When we encourage women to become entrepreneurs, we will be nurturing leaders and eradicating poverty” She said.

College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) Deputy Principal, Prof. Peter, K’Obonyo said the program will help advance the story of African women entrepreneurs’ across the world.

Keynote speaker Dr. Manu Chandaria lamented the fact that Kenyan women were under appreciated despite their hard work and success.  Dr. Chandaria, a respected businessman and philanthropist advised women entrepreneurs to be more united and proactive. “Success comes to those prepared to put in their best efforts” He said.
