In the 27th March 2019, the Council chair and Council members, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, the Deputy Vice Chancellors and College Principals met and interacted with School of Business Academic board. Detailed school presentations were made on School Strategic plan cascaded down from the recently launched University’s Strategic Plan 2018-2023.

The School highlighted their plans, projects, and challenges going forward.

The UoN Council Chair, Prof. Ojiambo, emphasized that it is paramount that the council gets to know the status of each college from the staff and students. The Interactions then go a long way in enlightening the council on the needs of each college and how they can come in and assist in implementing and achieving the goals as a community.

The Council Members that were on the tour were Ms. Flora Mtuweta, Chair of Finance and Strategic management, Dr. Jocelyn Marie Rarieya, Chair of Audit and Risk Management, Mr. Hassan Abdi Mohamud, Chair of Human Resource Administration, Mr. Isaac Chebon Kiprop, Chair of Infrastructure and Development and Mr. Samuel Kiiru - Representative of the Principal Secretaries for National Treasury.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi noted that it is a privilege to have the council going round each campus and sparing time to listen to all the representatives of the bigger University community. Prof. Mbithi also emphasized on the interactions that would then paint a picture of how far each campus has come in terms of development and efforts to maintain the world class status.

Most of the council members noted that the University of Nairobi has the best brains not only in Kenya but the East African region. From the presentations, the University’s influence was visible across the region. The council pledged their support to maximize the potential the campus has; to support the University in the transition from dependency on Government to self- sustainability, to enable commercialization of innovation and general improvement of infrastructure.

The council toured the teaching facilities, accommodation halls and infrastructure.
