Dean, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences welcome Freshers to the Lower Kabete Campus.
Speaking during First Years Orientation program, the Dean, Prof. Kennedy Ogollah, cautioned First Years on the need to be disciplined and spend their time well when in Campus. “No more captains, no prefects, no Principals and Deputy Principals. You are fully responsible for your time, “he said.
He took the opportunity to welcome First Years on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson. Speaking on the value of care, the Dean observed that the Faculty cares for student’s health, security, spirituality, wellness and their welfare. “We shall make Halls of Residence a comfortable place”, he promised.
You have the freedom of though and expression as University of Nairobi Students. The freedom of thought and expression is one of our core values, he said. He also urged students to join professional bodies like Finance Students Association, Marketing Students Association, among others. He also urged them to find home in religious organizations which will help them in building character and ethical values.
For those who are financially challenged, the Dean urged them to apply for scholarships and bursaries. There are many bursaries available from Governor, to MPs, to MCAs from their respective counties. We also have HELB Loans. He narrated a painful story of a student who was reluctant to take advantage of the available sources of funding and laying all the burden of paying school fees on his old and elderly grandmother. “Today, HELB has released 5.7 Billion Shillings to your accounts” he said.
In his concluding remarks, the Dean urged students to study hard and join the great Alumni community from the Faculty. The Alumni includes CEOs of Companies and Captains of Industry.
On issues of indiscipline, the Dean warned students against indiscipline while in campus. “While in High School, your parents would be called to disciplinary committees, here in Campus, we deal with you alone and when guilty, you will be suspended or chased away from the University,” he said.
