Students were also urged to be entrepreneurs, create business and delve into self-employment. The era of digital banking is gone, said representative from UBA Bank, we are not in digital banking where you can do your banking transactions while on your social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook and Telegram. Banks have also embraced e-commerce platforms where Kenyans order taxi, pay for pizza, pay for events tickets.

Eric Mureithi from Old Mutual challenged students to pursue new career areas or opportunities  like social media marketing, Fintech Solutions, responsible lending, responsible borrowing, climate financing, financial crime, cybercrime among others.

He pointed out that the biggest jobs are in the technology sector. He also challenged universities to introduce financial planning courses.

In his presentation, Mr. Mureithi pointed out 7 pillars of financial planning; being goal setting, managing financial position, saving and accumulation, investment planning, protection planning, retirement planning, career and entrepreneurship planning.

In his concluding remarks, he presented a financial toolkit for students. A toolkit, that will be essential to their financial success. This include ; getting a good education, acquiring social skills, mentorship, reading widely, writing down your ideas, having entrepreneurial mind-set and lastly believing in your dreams.
