It was a day of learning new ways of getting access to the over two million books at the University of Nairobi library. Students were excited to learn that they could access the library from the comfort of their phones, right in their hostels.

The library orientation for first years was lead by Josephine Mwicigi, Librarian, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences. Students were told of the library operating hours being from 8-10 PM daily and on Weekend  from 8-5 PM

The mission of the library is to provide quality information services. Empower the university to carry out its core mandate of teaching, learning, research and community service.

The library has books of various kinds, from academic books to novels to books you read for relaxation. The library has over two million physical books and over 900,000 ebooks.  The Librarian opined that the library motto is Kuuliza sio ujinga”. Students were encouraged to ask questions and get information.

Students who are not in campus can access the online library via remote access. They have access to e-books, e-journals and online newspapers like Daily Nation and The Standard.

Freshers were told that when they need books from the library, they can search for the books using using a reference number. The number guide students to get books from the shelves.

Students were also told that all graduating students must submit projects, thesis, that form part of the library resources. “Your projects and thesis form part of the University research output,” said the Librarian.
