Academic Members of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, have been urged to publish more on high impact journals to derive the benefits that comes from such endeavours like promotions and more earning potential from research grants.
Speaking during the event, Prof. Margaret Hutchingsons, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research Innovation and Enterprise, observed that the Faculty is doing well, but more efforts needs to be placed to maintream the research agenda even as they balance on the teaching workload.
If properly harnessed, the research component, has the ability to generate more revenues to the researchers and to the University of Nairobi. "Publications contribute to the rankings and gives us good visibility in the world and the African continent," she said. She pointed out that as part of the University Management, they are ready to help researchers seek strategic alliances, sourcing research funds, sharing research opportunities and protection of intellectual assets.
Prof. Hutchingson took the opportunity to highlight some of the recent research achievements and developments like the 5 Billion shillings Science Park, collaboration with Elgon Kenya, 10 African Europe Clusters of Research Excellence, Food Processing Hub in Upper Kabete Campus and Partnership with Global Center of Adaptation.
The DVC( RIE) also highlighted incubation hubs like C4D Lab, Food Science Pilot Plant as part of the achievements arising from the continous research endeavours in the University of Nairobi.
On his part, the Dean, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Prof. James Njihia pointed out that the teaching staff is doing well in rebalancing the teaching load and doing research. "We have Business Solutions Hub headed by Dr. Githii Wainaina
and Africa Center of Sustainable Operations headed by Prof. X. N. Iraki.
