UNSA Elections

The recent University of Nairobi Students' Association (UNSA) elections held on March 27, 2024, were a resounding success, marking a significant leap in student participation and setting the stage for a future filled with promise.

Team Focus emerged victorious in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences. Their leadership team boasts an impressive line-up, including Don Ochieng (Chairperson), Faith Muthoni Mutua (Vice-Chairperson), Dennis Okuyu Nyanje (Secretary General), and Golda Choletor Andala (Treasurer), Brian Kuria Njuguna will champion Sports & Social Welfare, Abdimajid Alio Abdinoor will represent Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Sidoniah Nyabouh Pouljor will represent International Students.

But the real winners are the entire student body. This year's elections, conducted online via an innovative E-ballot platform, saw an impressive 45.7% voter turnout, a significant increase from the previous year. This surge in participation demonstrates a thriving democratic spirit among the University of Nairobi's student body.

The swearing-in ceremony at Taifa Hall on March 28th, 2024, solidified the university administration's and UNSA leadership's collaborative spirit.  Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama pledged his commitment to working hand-in-hand with UNSA leaders to implement solutions that enhance the university's reputation and create more work-study opportunities for students.

Prof. Collins Odote, Chair of the UNSA Independent Electoral Commission, commended the surge in student participation and acknowledged the challenges faced because of the tight timeframe. He advocated for the earlier appointment of commissioners in future elections, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.

Congratulations to Team Focus on their well-deserved victory!  With a strong team at the helm and a collaborative spirit uniting the student body and administration, the University of Nairobi can look forward to a bright future filled with academic excellence and a lasting societal impact.
