Vivekanand Balmandir ( a 55 years old nursery school)), which is run by Hindu Religious & service Centre (HRSC) joined University of Nairobi students and staff from the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences in planting 240 trees at the Lower Kabete Campus grounds. The planting exercise took place on April, 1, 2026.

The event was graced by the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Prof. Kennedy Ogollah, who thanked the Indian community for the warm gesture to plant avocado trees. “This act of planting avocado trees teaches young people the value of patience. Not just to plant trees, but also to nurture them.  We recognize our tree planting champion, a student within the Faculty who ensured that the event was a success,” he said.

He took the opportunity to invite the Indian community to plant more indigenous trees. ”We have the capacity to plant ten thousand trees here at Lower Kabete Campus,” he said.  He also requested the Indian Community to consider feeding the bright and needy students in Campus. “We have the brightest and most needy students. They need our support, it only takes Kshs. 40 to feed one student per day”, he said.

The visitors highlighted  HRSC charity initiatives under the banner " Sewa Kenya" including providing mid day meals to over 8500 primary school students  daily, constructing modern kitchens, toilets blocks and libraries in several schools in Machakos and planting over 200,000 trees across Kenya.

For Vivekanda Bal Mandir Nursery School, this is the 7th consecutive tree planting program , starting in 2021, with previous events held at Jamhuri High School, Army Grounds Thika, Kiumbuni High School, Ruiru Water Plant and Lenana High School.
