Master of Sustainable Management and Operations (SuMO) is a new two-year masters level program being offered at the Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi. The program is implemented through the Africa Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Operations for Resource Management and Food Supply (SCO) established with the financial support of DAAD. The Centre brings together the University of Nairobi (UoN), the University of Dar es Salaam (UDBS), the Kuehne Logistics University (KLU) and Kühne Foundation to jointly contribute to enhanced skills and knowledge in sustainable management and operations.
The SuMO Program aim to impart students with skills and knowledge required for sustainable business operations. Students will learn from highly interdisciplinary team drawn from professors and industry professionals in agribusiness, operations management, supply chains, agricultural economics, business science and sustainability. This will holistically equip them with requisite skills and knowledge on sustainable operations which have been missing in the conventional business management trainings, making SuMO unique.
The Programme is designed for both regular government-sponsored and self-sponsored students and takes into consideration the needs of international students. It offers the flexibility of full-time and part-time learning.
Admission Requirements
The candidates for the MSc Programme in Sustainable Management and Operations
should be at least:
i. Holders of a degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours in areas related to agriculture, environment, agribusiness, business, social science and natural sciences of the University of Nairobi or an equivalent degree from a university recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate, or
ii. A holder of a degree with at least Lower Second Class Honours in any of the degrees specified in (i) above with two years of relevant experience or a postgraduate diploma in (i) above or equivalent from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by senate.
iii. A holder of a pass degree with a postgraduate diploma in the above relevant disciplines or its equivalent from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by the senate and two years relevant experience.
iv. A holder of pass degree in any of the degree categories specified in (i) above with at least five years relevant work experience.
Supervision and support
The candidates will have a supervisor from UoN and external supervisors from the pool of professors in the Africa Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Operations for Resource Management and Food Supply (SCO).
Publications
Although publications are not mandatory for this program, candidates are encouraged to publish at least one journal article before graduating.
