It was one of those rare occasions when the management of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences held a meeting with students to listen to their pain points. The online meeting was held on April 14, 2025 at 8 PM.
Students raised a number of issues they considered as weaknesses in the system and that they would love to see addressed by the management. Key issues raised include ; missing marks and the difficulty in doing follow ups for the same, registration deadlines was also mentioned as a big issue as portal get closed often, having a mixture of physical classes and online classes as this would favour more students to join the campus, fees payment and failure to reflect on the student portal, failure of staff members to respond to emails quickly , poor communication from front office staff and customer care staff who have the responsibility to deal with students on a daily basis.
Brian Okome, one of the students challenged the Campus Management to consider online learning as many universities are doing the same and hence taking in more students than the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences.
Duncan Watende, complained of some lecturers missing classes, hence lowering the quality of education. He challenged the Management to introduce financial modelling competition to help students get experience on business. He also complained on poor state of the hostels, poor state of computer labs and lack of school transport for long distance class trips. Students also complained of lack of training sports kits more so for indoor games like table tennis among others.
In his response to the plethora of issues raised by the students, Dean, Prof. Kennedy Ogollah, pointed out that this is the beginning on a series of meetings with students to understand their issues. As the new management, they will work hard to resolve all the issue raised. “I have an open door policy. Just send an email and if it is not responded to, please come to my office, “he said.
Prof. Ogollah apologized to the students for the weaknesses in the system. He promised to work on the pain points and help students enjoy their life in Campus.
