Prof. James Njihia , Dean, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences urged students to embrace integrity in leadership. “Students wants to be leaders to be able to control the money. Marketing Students Association, MSA should set the pace in governance, leadership and put the  interest of the students first. The bad things done in campus will follow you. Dont go for short term gains and sacrifice your future,“ he said.  

 

He challenged students to take marketing seriously. He pointed out that every big business mogul is a marketing guru. He mentioned big marketers like Steve Jobs from Appla, Phil Knight from Nike among others as the people who inspire him. “Marketing is the engine of business,” he opined.  

Mr Charles Matu,  Director of Sales and Marketing, Sankara Hotel pointed out that marketing is very essential. “The hotel rely on us to keep the noise out there. We have competition from hotels like Villa Rosa Kempinski, Movenpick among others”, he said.  

He also urged students to embrace personal branding beginning with branding themselves on social media platforms like LinkedIn.  “Look at what corporates need. Marketing graduates who also understands social media marketing, data analytics, artificial intelligence among others”, he said.

He revealed that they have host celebrities, who in turn help in amplifying the brand of the hotel online. Once a while, they use traditional media like radio, television station and newspapers to market the hotel.
