The annual University of Nairobi Students awards ceremony was a great success as over 700 students were awarded for their exemplary performance in academics, sports, music and leadership. The best student, Nabunya Hellen was from the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences.
The awards ceremony took place at Main Campus, Taifa Hall, on May 9, 2025.
Speaking during the awards ceremony, Prof. Francis Mulaa, Ag. Vice Chancellor, observed that appearing in the list of awardees is no mean fete. “This represents countless hours of hard work, dedication and unwavering commitment,” he said.
He took the opportunity to thank the sponsors that made the ceremony a success.
He added that “By investing your resources, you are actively shaping future leaders who will become responsible citizens. You believe in doing what is right. Your support is profoundly impactful especially for students from humble backgrounds. You help them dream and achieve great milestones,” he said.
A total of 107 donors supported the event. The total awards is Kshs 2.645 million and other benefits like student attachments and internship opportunities.
Prof. Ayub Gitao, DVC, Academic Affairs, opined that the University of Nairobi is here to nurture holistic and competitive graduates. “The awardees represent a wide spectrum from Diploma to PhD level. The students were awarded for academic excellence, research excellence, leadership, volunteerism, CSR and extra curriculum activities and games,” he said.
Donors Representative, Mrs. Margaret Njoroge from Gandhi Smarak said that as an organization, they sponsor students to the tune of Kshs. 10 Million every year. “We congratulate top achievers. We appreciate you for making this day a success. We celebrate students achievements. Never loose track of your goals in life despite many challenges you find along the way. If you give up, you are heading nowhere. To top performers, we congratulate you. Please stay on course in pursuit for excellence. To those not awarded, there is a room for improvement, “ she said.
Present during the event were Deans of Faculties with the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences being represented by Prof. Kennedy Ogollah.
