The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences was prominently represented at the University of Nairobi’s 2024–2025 Staff Performance Appraisal Awards on Thursday, 26 February 2026. The ceremony also marked the signing of the FY2025/2026 Performance Contracts, linking recognition to the next performance cycle.

Prof. Gituro Wainaina was honoured as Lecturer of the Year and received a Long Service Award after 42 years and 7 months of teaching and mentorship. His work spans classroom teaching, supervision of research projects, and guidance for students preparing to enter the business sector.

Other Faculty staff recognised for excellence included Mr. Nyamwange Stephen Onserio and Ms. Richu Salome Wambui of Management Science and Project Planning, as well as Mr. Amos Kirea Gitonga, Mr. Benedict Mutuma Kiambi, Mr. Francis K. Kivindu, Mrs. Sheila Gasheri Ndung’u, and Mr. Philip Koine Ngigi. Their contributions range from research and teaching to practical mentorship that equips students for professional challenges.

Chair of Council Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti Chacha described the awards as a measure of accountability and institutional responsibility. “Recognition is a formal affirmation of our collective accountability to the Government of Kenya, to our stakeholders, and to one another,” he said.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Human Resource and Administration Prof. John Mande highlighted the move toward continuous performance management. “Heads of Units will now conduct quarterly internal reviews before central consolidation,” he said, adding that performance is continuous, not annual.

Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance, Planning and Development Prof. Jackson Maalu praised the effort behind the awards. “The Committee reconciled submissions and reviewed data under compressed timelines,” he said, emphasising the importance of diligence in governance.

The awards underscore both measurable performance and human impact. Students and colleagues continue to benefit from Prof. Wainaina’s mentorship. With stricter documentation and quarterly monitoring now in place, the Faculty enters the FY2025/2026 performance cycle with higher expectations, clearer accountability, and a commitment to sustained excellence.
