Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Eliud Owalo noted that research must lead to publications of results and sharing of knowledge. He was speaking during the just concluded Nairobi Research Week. The four days event was held at the University of Nairobi Towers.
He observed that scholarship is formed by research and it’s only by scholars publishing their research findings and sharing the knowledge with the general public that their findings could benefit the society at large.
Mr Owalo urged Scholars to publish more and to share their research findings for the betterment of the society.
The Dean, Prof. James Njihia, noted that Department of Business Administration has been resilient over the years. “We need to think of research as something that adds value to knowledge. Research is what brings knowledge and opens new ways of thinking. We must think about the problems of the society and how research can contribute to solving them, “ he said. The problems currently facing the country include : unemployment among the young people, hunger among the population, drought and heavy flooding , reduced profits by companies, among others.
He challenged researchers to align their interests to the society’s interests.
“Is your research interest aligned to the society's interests? If the answer is yes, then your research will become sustainable and hence your research is relevant, “ he equipped.
The Director of Research, Prof. Justus Munywoki on his part observed that research is the way to disseminate knowledge. He challenged more students to share knowledge and their research findings.
The Keynote Speaker, Prof. Pam Andanda from United Kingdom of data protection and privacy of data especially in the healthcare sector. “When you give out information in a hospital settings, and leave your data there, who is charge of that information?” She asked. She called upon participants and Kenyans in general to be more aware of the rights to privacy and the newly enacted data protection regulations.
She urged researchers to take keen interest in managing their intellectual property rights and protecting their research findings through patents.
The DBA MR Conference by the Department of Business Administration was attended by among the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Chair of the Department, Dr. Winnie Munjiru and Director of Research Prof. Justus Musyoki.
