It was one of those few occasions when the academia and the industry come together in a joint Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR.

 

Staff from Kingdom Bank, Wangige Branch, led by the Branch Manager, Victoria Mwangi  led University of Nairobi , Faculty of Business and Management Sciences in planting 1,000 trees at Lower Kabete Campus.

Speaking during the tree planting exercise, Ms Veronica opined that they have several youth programs at the Bank and they are ready to engage our students anytime they are called upon. “Anytime you call us, we shall come. We have sponsored many sports events before,” she said.

She noted that as a bank, they have financial literacy programs that could be very beneficial to staff and students. They also offer scholarship opportunities and they have sponsored students from Strathmore and Riara Universities.

Prof. Peterson Magutu, Associate Dean, Graduate Business Studies and Research, welcomed the partnership with Kingdom Bank. He challenged them to offer internships, attachments and jobs to the students and also sponsor students events on Campus. He also requested the bank to establish an ATM machine within the Campus for ease in getting hard cash. “You can do branding of buildings. We cherish partnership and working together with the industry leaders, “ he said.

Prof. Magutu, who was representing the Dean, Prof. Kennedy Ogolla, urged the Bank to be actively involved in the annual University of Nairobi Awards, where top students in various Faculties are awarded for their exemplary performance.

On his part, Moses Otieno, Student Leader, UNSA, representing  Faculty of Business and Management Sciences urged the Bank to have an MoU with the Campus. Such an MoU will enable students have internships, jobs and enable to Bank to support a plethora of events happening in the Campus.
