Principal CHSS Prof.Enos Njeru presenting dummy check

Speaking during the dummy check presentation ceremony, University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi congratulated students for winning the business competition and improving the visibility and the brand image of the university. “GAUP is one among the many partnerships we have at the University of Nairobi. We are happy when staff and students travel all over the world and win in major competitions,” he said. He urged the winners to proceed and implement the business ideas now that they have the financial resources. The Vice-Chancellor was represented by Prof. Enos Njeru, Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

GAUP project is an initiative of three universities. It was established with the aim of; coaching business startups, integrating business research programs, cultivating young entrepreneurs after business competitions, encouraging staff and student exchange programs between the partner universities and developing a center of excellence in business entrepreneurship.

Dean School of Business, Prof. James Njihia, observed that the School is taking a new strategic direction that will help in increasing revenue as opposed to relying on the traditional revenue streams like teaching.  He observed that partnerships, research and internationalization is the way to go in the future.

Prof. Justus Munywoki, GAUP, Project Leader, revealed that the GAUP project is aimed at enhancing youth employability through entrepreneurship.  Going forward, they are working on establishing a center of entrepreneurship and small business development. They hope to nurture business startups and help them grow. Having benchmarked with similar centers of excellence in Ghana and Germany, they are convinced as a School that they will succeed. “Germany are very practical in their approach and we hope to learn from them greatly”, he opined.

The university management congratulates the students on wining the business competition that attracted hundreds of students from Ghana and Germany. We are proud of you.  The competition was held in Germany.

A team of about 10 students from the School of Business have won in two categories in business competition that attracted students from Ghana and German Universities. University of Nairobi students emerged the overall winners and the second runners up, winning a total of Euros 6,000 and Euros 4,000 for first and third positions respectively
